      Comments:

This is my 9 year olds first real bike. He has had cheaper bikes in the past but he loves everything about this one. It's the first bike he has had with changeable gears and he cycled through them like a pro on his first ride. It is lightweight and everything just works, all the time. He will be getting another Specialized for the next upgrade.

          Comments:

My six year old first grader took right to this sharp looking bike. He is a little short for it right now, but should be fine by late spring. He manages anyway. FDR State Park is great b/c it's big, open, flat parking lot lets him adjust to turning, flying, and breaking. He will do Tough Kids Triathalon next season with this bike. Perfect bike at the right price!

            Comments:

I bought this bike for my (soon to be) nine year old son so we could ride park trails together. It's his first quality, "non-toy" bike. It's a great bike but a little heavy for its size, weighing as much as my large adult bike. This is odd and unexpected considering the frame is all aluminum. This bike features one of cycling's latest frame design technologies, the "standover" top tube. This is where the top tube isn't straight across from the handlebar to the seat; rather, it starts at the handlebar and slopes downward at a significant angle towards the seat. This causes three problems but one major advantage. Disadvantage #1: This makes mounting this bike on most car racks (I have a high quality Saris rack) an exercise in misery which necessitates purchasing a workaround, namely the Saris Car Rack Bike Beam [@]. This bike beam is very easily attached/detached from the bike. It effectively creates a top tube that allows me to mount the bike on a car rack. [$] (disadvantage #2). Mounting the bike on my Saris trunk mounted car rack using the bike beam is a tad difficult because the lateral fastener on my rack doesn't accomodate the beam well and it must be "jimmied" to make it attach in stable fashion. Otherwise, the bike wobbles to and fro on the rack(disadvantage #3). The advantage of the standover top tube, though, outweighs the disadvantages. The standover top tube allows my son to easily dismount his bike and "standover" the sloped downtube without injuring any portion of his crotch area. This is a godsend! The seat & handlebars rise up a good height so adjusting the bike to accomodate my son's burgeoning height won't be a problem.Another nice feature is the absence of quick-release wheel hubs. This will prevent the wheels from being easily stolen by child miscreants. The handle gear shifter (single speed thank God!) was very easy for my son to learn and adapt to.[...]

great light weight bike, good for all purpose riding, though easy to shift without meaning to.
